Syracuse is changing
In the last two decades, we’ve gained a richly diverse student body. Today, you’ll hear 70 languages spoken in our schools, from Spanish and Somali to Arabic and Burmese.
With 4 in 5 students from low-income families, we’re embracing the challenge of giving all our students a vibrant education with new urgency. We’re going big. Through our ambitious five-year strategic plan, Great Expectations, we have positioned ourselves not just for change, but for transformation.
In short, we want people who are all in.
Our goal is to become the most improved urban district, but we know the road is long. When measured against rigorous standards for college and career readiness, fewer than one in ten of our students are proficient in reading and math, and half are graduating high school on time.
Rather than deterring us, the urgency of that challenge animates our days. Together, we’re turning around troubled schools with our Innovation Zone. We’re helping teachers reach their full potential through richer feedback, new opportunities to develop and grow, and greater pay for exceptional performance. And we’re supporting students on the path to college, in partnership with Say Yes to Education.
It’s an exciting time for our schools and our city. If you’re energized by our ambitious goals, and committed to charting a new future for Syracuse, join us.
